A decent swing with a sword can decapitate. I'd say that is good stopping power.

If you want range, get an English warbow. ;)

I like swords. Been studying various sword arts for ye gawds that's a long time.

If I wanted range I'd forget the too-long English bow and go with the weapon that conquered all the bits of Eurasia that matter - the horse nomad's composite bow.

What was the range on the horsebow? There are (unconfirmed) kills with an English warbow at half a mile.

The record for a composite bow (Horsebow,Magyar,Mongol,Turkish etc) is 434m (that I have found) and was in 1910 from a 200 year old Turkish composite bow. The current English Longbow record according to the Archery.org site is 379.51m set in 2008. Hope it helps.
