First of all, no offense to True Blood fans.
Knowing HBO they'd just turn it into something coming close to a kind of supernatural porn series (True Blood anyone?) so they're about the _last_ network I'd want to see lay hands on the Nightside.
From what I've read, sexual relationships between characters have always been really decently been introduced. HBO would just jump at the opportunity to turn them into one sex scene after another just because it would get viewers. In my opinion _that_ would cheapen it.
It's actually quite refreshing to have something that doesn't have blatant sex scenes in it (I've got nothing against sex scenes, but sometimes it's nice not to have them if that makes sense).

I don't think no name actors are necessarily a bad thing. Look at shows like Dr Who, there's tons of actors in there that either have no names or don't have big names and that's worked out fine. Plus, they'd be able to film it in London for sure as they're the well, the BBC.

Besides, they've got some of the best writers of the moment (in my opinion at least), so I have a lot of faith in them, especially after shows like Sherlock. As long as they don't let Russel T Davis go anywhere near it, it should be fine :)

I didnt really come across the way I wanted to with my statement about no name actors. I should have said bad actors. there are a lot of times when scifi/fantasy shows/movies have the worst actors in the world. this genre is my favorite and I can't tell you how many times I have been disappointed when the script was good and the actors were horrible.

so, no names can be good and bad actors are still bad.

I did not read the books that true blood is based on and can not comment on that aspect, but I have read that there is a lot of sex in the books. I do agree that HBO is not afraid to shoot a sex scene, but the scenes are not as frequent as they were in the first season of true blood. also, there are HBO original series that have zero sex in them (also, Simon's books have very little sex in them)

I did not base my thoughts on true blood, I based them on game of thrones. the sex scenes in the show have been downplayed from the book and while they still have some nudity, it is infrequent and comes straight from the book. also, the author has had a huge hand in the development of the show (which I would assume Simon would do if approached) keeping it true to the novels.

In a perfect world everyone would like the genre we enjoy (i assume you do since your here) and video renditions would completely true to the books. But we don't and the production companies have to add some spice to get the attention of the population at large. if done well, a small price to pay.

I have access to a BBC channel and enjoy several programs they offer, but i have yet seen anything with the kind of budget that HBO would sink into it (by the way hate the americanized versions of some of the BBC programs I've, just not as good as the originals)

Oh, by the way arent americans supposed to be the prudish ones?

I understand your desire for quality scripting, but no one save for HBO (premium channels) would budget this project the way it deserves (or stay relatively true to book). of note is how HBO has turned single books of a series into single seasons, no one I can think of puts that kind of detail into a single book (just think 12 yrs of John Taylor)

There's a big difference between not wanting a show to be a heap of sex scenes strung together, like True Blood (granted there is a lot less sex in later seasons but still, come on) and being prude(ish) though. I find it rather annoying that when someone expresses the desire for a sex-scene less show people start digging out the term prude.

The BBC doesn't need the budget like HBO to make something awesome. Look at all the amazing shows they've produced like Dr Who, Sherlock, Judge John Deed, ...

Oh well, we can argue this point 'till the cows come home as they say, everyone will still have their favourite network that they'd love to see the series do.
Whomever does it, I hope that if it gets done (and I hope it will), it'll be done well. With style and the in the way the series deserves to be made :)

Nightside as a movie is a terrible idea, particularly if it ends up "Hollywoodized". Set in Los Angeles or New York, starring a far too violent and not at all funny John Taylor and a Damsel in Distress Suzie Shooter against an obviously bad guy evil (to pull someone completely out of my ass) Walker? You all know that is what would come of this.

The series idea I actually like. I could see either BBC, ITV or someone like HBO doing some justice to this. I could see it well in the hands of someone like Stephen Moffat. Hour-long episodes with probably two episodes per book could handle this really well.

As for casting, just off the top of my head a few ideas (names are in no particular order, just written down as I thought of them):

John Taylor - Ben Daniels, John Simm, Richard Armitage, Jonas Armstrong, Michael Fassbender, Matthew Macfayden

Suzie Shooter - Summer Glau, Lucy Griffiths, Alex Kingston, Keeley Hawes

Walker - Christopher Lee (I doubt he'd do it, but he's awesome for it), Tim McInnery, Roger Allam, Hugo Weaving, Anthony Stewart Head, Iain Glenn

Alex Morrissey - Simon Pegg, David Morrissey (not because of the name), Harry Lloyd

The Collector - Stephen Fry, Nick Frost, Mark Addy

Razor Eddie - Richard Armitage, Andy Serkis, Viggo Mortensen, John Simm, Robert Glenister

Dead Boy - Sascha Baron Cohen, Matt Smith, Colin Morgan, Sam Troughton, Marc Warren

Larry Oblivion - Toby Stephens, Harry Lloyd, Matthew Macfayden

Tommy Oblivion - Hugh Laurie, Toby Stephens, Aidan Gillen

There's my prospective list. Questions? Comments? Snide Remarks?

Christopher Lee as Walker?

Isn't he a bit too old for the role? Christopher Walken, possibly.

I'd vote for Michael Palin. Usually cheerful, but able to do grim (see Brazil). Also the right age I'd have thought.

I don't know. Something about Walker always screamed Christopher Lee to me. That sheer ability at calm gravitas.
