I don't buy physical books, as I'm a fast reader and simply don't have the space to store them. But as far as I can see, amazon.co.uk only offers the Kindle version of the Nightside series in German.

Even more strangely, amazon.de offers it in both languages. So Germans can enjoy the series in the original English, but British readers can only buy the German translation?

I can only speculate that this is some sort of weird licencing issue. Does anyone know if it's likely to be resolved?

Hello Richard, I'm on the other side of the pond so I can only speculate, but searching on amazon.co.uk didn't show any Nightside books available on Kindle. I'm almost positive they were available on Kindle via the amazon.co.uk store previously, so I'm wondering if maybe this is a bug on Amazon's part. I'd suggest use the Contact Us feature to ask a question why the Nightside books are not available in English on Kindle and see if they can figure it out so you can order them. Worst case scenario you could always purchase the Omnibus editions, three books in one that way.

I have to wonder if it is because Simon is out of print in the UK. (Was having a discussion about that very fact earlier, in my local branch of Waterstones.)

If I want to get any of Simon's books, I have to import from the US.

Try putting "simon r. green nightside kindle" in the search box - I get 11 results (Nightside books 1-11, German edition).

Thanks for the other suggestions, I guess I'll contact Amazon.

They still seem to be available in paperback from amazon.co.uk, but the Mrs has banned me from squeezing any more books onto our shelves or storing any more in the cellar, and it breaks my heart to give away good books (I already had to get rid of a load of them). The ebooks take up no space.

It is possible that some companies still have stock, or that they import from the US, but there is not a UK publisher for Simon at the moment.

Which is criminal, and should be investigated by the proper authorities.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for him to self-publish (at least the ebook version) and keep 70% of the royalties...

He has a US Publisher - Penguin Group/Roc.

I am unsure what kind of contractual clauses there are. He could be prevented from self publishing.

The only reason I even know he doesn't have a UK publisher is because I bumped into him yesterday and it came up in conversation.

I don't think he has ever really done that well over here, compared to the USA, where his last nine books have been NY Times bestsellers.

Of course, since he has several books and the movie coming out in this coming year, things could change.

I missed this when it was first posted...

Simon can't self publish. His contract with Roc in the US is for world rights. They publish in the US and then sub his work out to other county's (currently 19).

The problems with the UK seems to be that a publisher here will see the US sales figures and think they can get huge returns here. But none of them will ever put any work into pushing the books. No pr, no point of sale materiel, I even offered to set up a signing tour of free and they turned it down! Then they complain that they don't get the number they were expecting. . .

His lack of UK publisher is a continuing source of great frustration to me.
