A country house murder mystery with a supernatural twist...

Image

Quote:
Ishmael Jones is someone who can’t afford to be noticed, someone who lives under the radar, who drives on the dark side of the road. He’s employed to search out secrets, investigate mysteries and shine a light in dark places. Sometimes he kills people. Invited by his employer, the enigmatic Colonel, to join him and his family for Christmas, Ishmael arrives at the grand but isolated Belcourt Manor in the midst of a blizzard to find that the Colonel has mysteriously disappeared. As he questions his fellow guests, Ishmael concludes that at least one of them – not least Ishmael himself - is harbouring a dangerous secret, and that beneath the veneer of festive cheer lurk passion, jealousy, resentment and betrayal. As a storm sets in, sealing off the Manor from the rest of the world, Ishmael must unmask a ruthless murderer before they strike again.

Release date: 29-Jan in the UK, 1-May in the US. Currently listed as hardcover only. UK publishing will make Luc happy!

I was curious about this one at first. A locked room mystery perhaps? Something inspired by Agatha Christie? Until I saw this...

Ugh, more vampires. At least it's not zombies.

I will! When I get my paws on a copy I can actually read (not like NetGalley's kindle copy that is stuck in limbo XD. I hate NetGalley SO MUCH).
Steve, my mum is asking for a Dutch translation, she loves Agatha Christie so she wants to read this one.

@Alyndar: I prefer vampires over zombies too. But I'm not much for the zombie franchise in any case (I only very selectively like zombies).
Of course, that's just what amazon is saying, I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a single vampire in the entire book in the end.

I feel silly for not catching the cover quote earlier:

 Well played Mr Green, well played.

As ever, it's down to a Dutch publisher wanting to take it and do a translation. The Dutch rights are there for the taking, it just needs someone to want to...

Needs must when the devil is yelling at you in Dutch.

Pfff at this rate I may as well translate it myself for mum XD
I won't get into trouble if I do it just for her right?
(That is, when I finally get it to appear on my kindle)

I'm no expert in international copyright law, but I would think that would fall into the category of "fan translation" like most anime and manga. As long as you're not distributing it for profit I would hope you would be ok.

Having read the book I would like to reassure Alyndar: it's not your run of the mill vampire story. And amazon should go fuck itself sideways.
That's all I'm about to say on the matter, for I shan't share spoilers (unless someone wants them, in which case, ask me for my email and mail me in private).

Here's my review :)

Having read it, I don't think I'll be translating it for my mum after al, not really her cup of tea. And my dad can just buy a copy and read it in English :)
