Great review (as always). So less of an invincible man protagonist, that's good to hear. That was definitely one of my complaints about The Big Game novella. "Vampires? Ehh, John Taylor will eat them for breakfast, and wash them down with a wormwood brandy." I find it much easier to relate to someone who is just a bit above ordinary instead of being the child of a biblical myth or equipped with marvelous gadgets or super powers.

I think the big question on everyone's mind about the protagonist would be: did he ever say to anyone "Call me Ishmael"? :D

Thanks :)

I would tell you if it weren't against my "non spoilers" principle :)

I will go open a spoilers thread though :)

I can't click on the spoilers thread, the book won't be released in the US for another 2 months!

I am reading it now and so far I am very impressed. Ishmael is very cool protagonist, personally for me maybe second most likeable after JC. Soon I'll share my thoughts on Goodreads!

Been a busy month so far but finally got some time over the weekend and about a third of the way through the book. Enjoying it so far, very much hearkens back to the pulp noir style novel of the early Nightside books. Much props to Mr Green for keeping me interested!
