A review of Anne Rice's latest 'novel':

http://www.thestar.com/news/books/artic ... ice-review

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd retire after a review like that.

Wow, that was a very poignant review. I was never a fan of Anne Rice, but she jumped the shark quite some time ago, especially considering her scathing response to her "fans" on Amazon.com after her last Lestat book. Wasn't she supposed to be writing religious fiction nowadays? I very much agree that she should consider retirement... :|

I have never been able to finish one of her books, they are that shite.

If anyone else had produced a book that got that kind of review, they would never have got published.

As for the religious fiction... Apparently she had a large falling out with the Catholic Church. (I know a long-term Anne Rice fan. Hence the link.)

Even that review is dull!

Ok you know, when I was 14 and Interview with the Vampire came out my dad bought me the Dutch version of the book. And I really enjoyed it. When the movie came out my dad, much to his later regret, bought me the movie too. And I really enjoyed that too. For a while I watched it loads.

When I finally saw it again when I was in my twenties I wondered what the heck I found so epic about it when I was younger because the incessant whinging of the vampires makes me want to stab myself in the head with a BBQ fork!

I tried to read Vampire Lestat some years ago because it turned out that my husband owned it (he got some of the vampire books as a birthday gift many years ago). The pieces _without_ Lestat were alright. I did enjoy the short chapter on Armand but mainly because he was super random and kept on doing retarded things with appliances. I liked it enough to buy The Vampire Armand. It was a total waste of money and I still regret it.

So yeah, not a fan! Half the time I'm getting annoyed by how whingy the characters are and the other half I'm shouting: oh for pete's sake, just get laid already because this stupid sexual tension is SO FUCKING OBNOXIOUS!

Anne Rice, just say no, read something else instead!

Having not read the book in question, there is one actual thing that I'd like to correct the reviewer on.

She has never written "some first-rate porn in the past". She's vastly overrated in the talent department.

I liked "The Vampire Lestat" very much, then I tried "The Queen of the Damned' and found it to be boring. Rice is way too descriptive and erotic for my taste. :?
