So, I've recently found and enjoyed 3 books by Ben Aaronovitch, his Rivers of London series.

http://www.the-folly.com/

Young Londoner completes his PC training and is destined for a life on the beat, when he is found to have a tallent that has him sent to a select part of the force, so select in fact it consists of him and his boss!

He is now a magician in training, the first in 40 years and helps investigate the weirder side of London Crime.

I've been finding these very fun and readable, with interesting characters. Having just finished the 3rd book (book 4 due out in 2013) I've decided I'd love to see this on tv!

Has anyone else read it yet?

Read all three as well. Really liked the series so far, can't wait for the next one. Would be interesting on tv though, especially with the overarching storyline

I heard a lot of good things about this series, I'll have to check it out (after I finish this review copy I'm dealing with and the two Molly Harper books I still want to read).

I picked up the first book since it has Smaug's recommendation, and rather enjoyed it! The tone is very casual, which I appreciate, and I even feel like I got a bit of a history lesson alongside the story. The characters are believable, and the dialog is fun and snarky. I'm a few chapters into the second book now, and this series gets two thumbs up from me!

Yay! I have another new favourite author, I'll have to start a new thread soon.

Hmm, I could see a television serial base off this series. However, one of the things I've enjoyed about these novels has been the peeks into history behind parts of London, and as someone who's only visited the UK once it's a very interesting perspective to take. That would probably be sacrificed for the camera, but I don't think the show would suffer because of it. I'll be curious to see how this pans out!

Grumble, grumble...

I just found out the fourth book, "Broken Homes", was released in the UK 3 months ago, but won't be available in the US for another 4 months. Sorely tempted to import...
