Am I right in thinking that the competition can't involve anything fictiony related to the books? 'cause if SRG is going to judge them, he presumably can't look at anything that smells of fanfic for the usual legal reasons.

(Though I suspect he wouldn't want to. The only fanfic I've seen has been utterly hideous slash things. Scary.)

So I'm guessing anything short story-ish would have to be original?

There's nothing wrong with the idea of fanfic (apart from having to read some of it!).
There are copyright issues (on both sides).

But it need a lot of prep. Unless you've a readership of thousands you get 2 or 3 pieces.

I was looking for something that people could just do in a few minutes.

Fair enough. How many entries did you get for the Ghost Finder comp? Looking at stats, it seems as though there's only 130 members so you have got a bit of a problem.

How about a punny titles competition? Either for a currently existing book, or a nebulous future one.

We had about 50 people enter, some from the membership and others through the contact page.

The sites gets lots of hits a day but not many join the forum?

The titles idea is a good one, might run with that for the next one...

I think that a lot of people have the fear that the forum is full of hideously obsessed fans. It takes them a while to realise that's not the case I think.
If you see some fandoms out there, jeez, creepy much.

I like competitions that challenge you, but then the winners are drawn out of a hat, that way people who enter a completion that isn't their strong point still have a chance of winning.

You can also post all of the entries (without naming who did them) so we can all share the talent I'm sure is on this site.
