Just for fun.

If you had a limitless budget, who would you get for the cast of a movie adaption of the Deathstalker series of books?

Personally, I am unsure about the lead characters, but I have some ideas for the minor (well, less major) players.

Tobias Shrek: Jack Black.
Flynn (Toby's cameraman): Dave Grohl
Jack Random/ Young Jack: Tom Cruise
Carrion: Crispin Glover

First of all, I'm afraid that it is very likely that the movie will be more expensive than "Avatar"... but really the main problem for me will be that we all have the characters in our mind and somehow popular actors won't really fit. So I'd prefer relatively unknown actors, preferably from the UK and Australia. On the other hand, a friend of mine says that anime can do justice to the series, because it allows bloodshed :D

As I said, this is just a bit of fun. hence the 'limitless budget'.

That said, I have an absolute loathing of anime, so would be seriously upset to see Deathstalker (or any of Simon's other works) dragged through the animation process.

Actually I think that Ghostworld and Hellworld CAN be made into movies. And they will be much, much better movies than Aliens vs Predator vs Robocop vs Bush part 76543. You'll need a good director - say, John Carpenter and solid actors. The creature in Ghostworld will be the main star, I guess...
In the Deathstalker the trickiest part wil be to cast Owen - and while it is cliched, I think that Christian Bale will do well with his character. Hazel, honestly I don't know. Jolie for Ruby Journey - I think that she will be able to portray her character very well.
I don't know about Lionstone and Valentine.
BTW, who would you cast as a director? J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) could do well IMO.

JJ for script and talky bit.

Michael Bay for all the big battles

And John Woo for the fight scenes. Job done...

I agree 1 000% about Woo. Awesome director.

I'd be tempted to say Alex Proyas as director. I like what he did with Dark City (and The Crow, obviously).

Or Luc Besson.

Proyas for the Nightside :)

About Besson, I'm not sure that he can make a movie with such dark universe... "The 5th Element" was a bit like faerie tale.

Besson would be great.

The 'Fifth Element' style would would brilliantly for the Parade of the Endless, whilst his 'District 13' style would work really well for Mistport.
Consider his movies, 'Taken', 'Leon', 'Kiss of the Dragon' and the 'Transporter' series. They show a no-holds-barred approach which would work really well.

Besides, Besson has a habit of getting really good free-runners in his movies. Which is what Cat would have to be.
