Watched Highlander the other night.

People may think this is heresy, but I was considering how badly done it was, and how badly it has aged.

What do you all think, would a reboot work (if done well)?

If so, who'd you cast, and would you change anything?

If not Highlander, then is there a movie you would suggest?

I don't like remakes so this is a hard question for me.

I guess it could have been done with better accents though!

Mandy Patinkin could take Sean Connery's character and Connor MacLeod could be erm, someone else.

I know what you mean about remakes, but I think that, sometimes, the concept is great, but the movie ages poorly.

My casting choices are thus:
Connor - young Scottish unknown (Lambert was far too old for the role. Far too French as well.)
Ramirez - Oded Fehr
The Kurgan - Jason Momoa

As for changes, there'd be a lot. I'd turn it into a trilogy, setting each movie into a different era, rather than cramming flashbacks into it.

Film One: Highlander: Awakening
Connor, of the clan Macleod lives in the highlands at the end of the 16th century, and is eager to enter his first battle. The rival clan has hires mercenaries (in the shape of the Kurgan and a bunch of other immortals loyal to him.)

After being run through by the Kurgan, Connor's miraculous recovery (at a time when King James VI of Scotland's book 'Daemonologie' has just been published) is decried as sorcery and witchcraft, leading to his expulsion from the clan.

After living as an outcast for some years, Connor encounters an Egyptian man going by the Spanish name of Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez (Fehr). Ramírez teaches Connor of his nature as an immortal and of a secret war between two factions of immortals that has been going on for hundreds of years. On the one hand is the Kurgan, determined to take the power of all the immortals for himself in order to rule the world forever. On the other, Ramírez represents a council that is in favour of immortals remaining behinds the scenes, subtly guiding the mortals without being noticed.

Ramírez ends up getting killed by one of the Kurgan's lieutenants, who Connor seeks out, in order to exact revenge.
At the end of the film, Connor gives up his identity and moves on under an assumed alias.

I'd watch that.

I'd also go more into their special powers beyond just not getting old.

In the original we see a mystical transference of energy with every kill, and Ramírez shows Connor how to sense the heartbeat of the stag. It'd be interesting to explore these ideas.

Someone please pipe some funding to Luc so he can exec produce, that is definitely a movie I'd want to see! Awesome casting suggestions too, I never would have thought of Oded Fehr for Ramirez until you mentioned him, now I can't think of anyone better! (aside, ya know, from Sir Connery)

Connery as an Egyptian Spaniard? Yes, he did great characterisation. No he did not work in the role.

Which is kind of my point.

So pointing out the flaw with him being rather old looking for an immortal would be a no no?

(I ignore the second movie as being not part of canon - Aliens? Really?)
