I completely forgot to check this out, and must say I was really impressed with the quality of the trailer. Here's a link to it on YouTube:

My only concern is it looks like it's going for "action over story" (just based on the trailer, mind), but it looks like some serious effort is being put into it. I subscribed to the channel so I can keep an eye on any new media. Thanks for the suggestion Luc!

From some of what the production team have been saying, there is plenty of story, but they appreciate a trailer needs to grab the attention. Looks a fair bit more 'grown up' than Rowlings stories.

That's certainly not a bad thing.

Not at all.

Now, talking of expanded universes, how do people feel at the notion that Disney is pretty much tearing up all the established Star Wars canon that is not in the films?

Good question. I'm one of those people that enjoyed Star Wars (original trilogy only please) but was never an enormous fan of the series. I did not see Episode 1 on release day - I didn't see it until a month afterwards, and did not see Episode 2 or 3 in the theaters (didn't even buy the third one). So to me there's no harm in making a new movie, all it can do is make a profit for Disney with all the following the series has.

There are those fans who are avid readers, though.

The vast majority of the Star Wars (fan) canon is in the printed format.

Disney has said it does not see any of that as canon. As far as I can tell, I don't think it will consider the games canon either. (Not sure about the tv series.)

Wow, didn't know that. Ignoring the fiction that has continued the series for years is a real slap in the face. :o

In fairness to Disney, George Lucas wasn't too worried with the expanded universe canon as the prequel trilogy retconned some bits:

I think one problem is what they see themselves doing with the Star Wars Universe and in order to do what they want some of that expanded universe stuff has to go. Instead of picking and choosing they just said, "Everything goes."

You have heard about the stand alone movies they want to do, right? A Han Solo prequel taking place before A New Hope and a Boba Fett movie taking place either before or after The Empire Strikes Back.

Here's a link: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/02/06/s ... boba-fett/

From the article:
Quote:
(Bob Iger) said the screenwriters working of the stand-alone films are Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Sherlock Holmes) and Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the filmmaker behind The Big Chill.)

So it's not all bad.

Considering the popularity of Fett, they risk a lot of fanboy ire by messing with the canon.

Some of these Starwars geeks are more fundamental than a southern States baptist.
