During the past year I've slowly been reading, rereading, or listening to all of Simon's novels. I only have 10 Nightside books, Shadows Fall, Drinking Midnight Wine, and Robin Hood left. In the 32 books that I've gone though there's this one word that always pops up. It's gotten to the point where I smile and chuckle whenever I come across it. Is it some running gag that I'm not aware of? I never noticed it when I first read many of these books but when I read several in a row it leaps out at me.

Do you know the word I'm talking about?

Hmm, I'm sure once you reveal the answer to your puzzle I'll nod and say "Yeah, I can see it." But off hand, I've never noticed a single word, but there are usually phrases that are common amongst the books in a series, and sometimes bleed over into others. Like John Taylor's "It was the easiest thing in the world", or Eddie Drood's "I'm an agent, not an assassin." I'm most fond of "It will all end in tears."

Well, no, I have to take that back, that wouldn't have come to mind at all. I can think of a couple of times where that word may have been used, but I wouldn't think of it as a trend.
