Ok, lots and lots of them, I know. But I've just heard a new one.

There's a idea floating around that organizations like the CIA and NSA can tap into any phone and listen in through the mic even when the phone's not making a call.
Efficiently making every mobile phone a bug.

The answer is, take the battery out. The phone dies, no bugging. Simple enough...

So why then does every model in the iPhone range have a none removable battery :!:

Because Apple are in league with the 'power that be  ' to enough that there are enough usable phone's around to ensure they can listen to everyone...

Remember folks you heard it here first (and if I'm never seen again, it's been fun!).

Any conspiracy theories you'd all like to share (if you dare!)...

I don't have a phone.

I heard that the Vatican has a 'restricted' section that only a select few (notably higher ranking Jesuits and those at least 'Cardinal' level in Church hierarchy) can enter. Within these vaults, there is a locked room that has not been opened in living memory yet, from time to time, sobbing can be heard. (I just want to get at the armoury!)

Then there is the classic on that says that the moon landing was real, but that NASA put out the rumour that it was fake, to cover up what they found up there (Nazis).

Oh, and a personal favourite:
The government is deliberately lowering the standard of education in order to consolidate its grip on the population. :ugeek:

I hadn't heard all of the Vatican one, that's an interesting spin on it!

I have heard the phone one before. (I think it was a feature on a Law & Order or similar police drama not too long ago) Anything's possible with Big Brother.

When I get bored, I make up conspiracy theories.

...But only because the government brainwashed me to.

Here's a conspiracy theory I hadn't heard of before 0 The Phantom Time Hypothesis:

"The Phantom Time Hypothesis is a conspiracy theory developed by Heribert Illig (born 1947 in Vohenstrauß, Germany) in 1991. It proposes that periods of history, specifically that of Europe during the Early Middle Ages (AD 614–911), did not exist, and that there has been a systematic effort to cover up that fact. Illig believed that this was achieved through the alteration, misrepresentation and forgery of documentary and physical evidence."

Scientists are working on proving that one:

The circular logic in that article made me laugh.

Quote:
The whole idea hinges on the assumption that whoever built our hypothetical simulation built it the same way we build ours. On the other hand, if our robot overlords have constructed a different way of doing things we might never notice that there is something wrong with the world.

I thought the whole thing was funny.

If we are really in the Matrix, and they are working on a way to find out, the machines will just pull the funding.
