This is probably one of my favorite parts of the series. After reading it I had to dig into my old copy of Heart of Darkness. The Red Man, classic.
Throughout his books I have also enjoyed all the Marlowe's Doctor Faustus references. I do not catch all of his references to other works, but I try.

Oh, yes. While I was reading this I understand how great "The Deathstalker" truly is.

I had an incredible bit of weirdness yesterday...I am halfway through Deathstalker War, which means I am with our heroes aboard the Merry Mrs. Trusspot on their way into the forest. When my GF got out of bed, I spent ten minutes explaining to her how this chunk of the book is essentially yet another reworking of Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Then I plop down to watch some TV and find that Epix 3 is fifteen minutes into Apocalypse Now. It was incredibly surreal.

Hi Jim and welcome to the site.

NO ONE catches all the references, trust me.
Simon's explained some of them to me and they are SO obscure no one will ever get them all.
Maybe one day he can convince some publisher to produce an Ultimate edition and everything will be explained. . .

Yeah, I've specifically hunted for references and I doubt I've found even half of them. No one will find all of them. Green is a master of the obscure reference.

Maybe one can hope for a York Notes, or a - if desperate - Cliff's Notes.
