Post subject:  Deathstalker e-books?

My job involves a lot of - quiet - night shifts, so I get a lot of reading done. While I'm perfectly happy to sit down and curl up with a dead-tree book, the utility of e-books is undeniable. I could take my set of Deathstalker books to work and wade through them, or I could load up my Kindle with the entire set and enjoy them at my - or my employer's - leisure.

But it seems that e-books aren't available, unless one wishes to dabble in the seamy underbelly of the Internet and engage with Brett Random's ilk. Or unless one is willing to break the spines of one's physical copies and scan and OCR (and proofread) them.

Frankly, I'd rather pay Amazon (or third-party publisher for a .MOBI file - see Baen Books for an excellent example) for the privilege. I've already paid once for the physical copies, thus giving Simon some royalties, so I feel no moral objection towards downloading some hooky copies of the books (as long as they're accurate to the original text) and slinging them on my Kindle. However, I'd much rather buy some "official" e-books, giving Simon royalties twice, instead of relying on the scanning and proofreading abilities of some random stranger off the Internet. After all, there's no way in Hell I'm deliberately breaking the spines of my own books - or spending the time involved in scanning and proofreading them.

So how about it? Any chance of e-book editions of the Deathstalker (or, in fact, any of Simon Green's work) any time soon?

Maybe it's a regional thing? From the US Amazon.com store I see all eight Deathstalker books and all three prequel books are available for the Kindle for the same price as the paperback. I tried searching Amazon.co.uk and only saw the prequel books in Kindle format. It's up the publisher to make them available in Kindle format, so I would suggest going to Amazon, finding the print book and clicking on the "I’d like to read this book on Kindle" link on the item page. Amazon is pretty diligent about sending those notifications to each publisher at least.

I wasn't aware of the "I want this on my Kindle" link; thanks for pointing it out. I also hadn't realised that Mistworld, Ghostworld and Hellworld were available. However, the price is just silly. Six quid for an e-book version of a twenty-year-old book (and seven quid for Hellworld)? And people wonder why copyright infringement occurs... If it was a brand new story, I might be tempted to pony up the price of a tangible paperback for a non-tangible copy. As it is, the publisher is just taking the mickey, pure and simple. I'm willing to pay twice, but I'm not willing to be rooked. I think I'll just stick with my paperbacks where Simon's stuff is concerned, and give my e-book money to sensible publishers like Baen. Their prices are reasonable, and they don't bother with that DRM nonsense either.

As for the US store, I've just searched for Simon Green's books and can find only nine: the three Twilight of the Empire books, the first three Secret Histories books, a couple of the Forest Kingdom books, and a short story collection to which Simon is a contributor. Is there a special way of searching Amazon (whether UK or USA) that I'm somehow overlooking?

Anyone ever find place to buy the ebooks in Europe? Sucks ball that I have to pirate them but I seem to have no other choice.

Kinda dumb that you can only buy them in America when he's a British writer.

He isn't published in the UK, at the moment. Extremely frustrating.

well taking aside that i have been using "wolfling" as my screen name not just here but also on other sites and games, i would have to say that my favorites have to be valentine, chappie, rupert, and owen. but first would probably go to john taylor. i mean owen is a perfect hero, so to speak, but taylor for some reason just strikes a chord with me. he is like an evolved personafication of owen and rupert in one character.

We're hoping that Jo Fletcher books will take Deathstalker. Jo's currently doing the Nightiside and SH series. If they sell well. . .
