This was mentioned a while ago in the announcements section, and I just noticed that it was released! I gave it a download to my Kindle, and gave it a quick glance through, didn't recognize any familiar faces unfortunately, but its definitely in the Deathstalker universe. (with some Secret History references with the forbidden weapons?) Not bad, my only complaint is that it's too short!

I'll have to get that. It'd be nice to see universe expansion without worrying about existing characters.

I took some time and gave this another read (the first was a quick read while working out, so I didn't really absorb the details). I wanted to clarify that I assume this is in the Deathstalker universe because of the original newspost. There's no mention to the Empire of Humanity, or any recognizable places, such as Virimonde, Golgotha, or the Madness Maze. No espers, the one guy was only called a telepath, and there were no sword and laser battles. It was short, but enjoyable, just don't go into it hoping for more Owen and Hazel.

If I had to guess in-universe, I'd say this story takes place some time between the Secret Histories modern time and Giles Deathstalker's time, with the lords and ladies of old earth being some kind of genetically altered Drood character, based on the way they described themselves. Maybe SRG is setting the tone for some kind of "old republic" setting? One can only hope!

Just to correct this.

I did tell Steve it was going to be a Deathstalker story, but then I changed my mind. That's why you can't find any referances in the text.

I'm fickle, what I can say...

I think you're entitled! I'd like to dream that this is still tied to the Deathstalker universe somehow, just for that little taste again. :)

I think that parallels can be drawn on a superficial level, but that Deathstalker is a lot more detailed.

The story was still very, very good, even if it was not connected to the Deathstalker series
